Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) has signed a collaboration agreement with the aerospace engineering team North Space, a partnership developed through the Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ) that aims to boost scientific and technological research and strengthen our commitment to innovation and excellence in education and training.

With the support of the DEQ, which provides laboratory facilities for the development and production of the SPATI-II rocket fuel, and with the collaboration of Rosa Pilão, a faculty member of ISEP’s Department of Chemical Engineering, North Space achieved an important milestone at the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC), becoming the only Portuguese team to successfully launch its rocket in the competition, reaching an altitude of 500 metres.

The formalisation of this agreement ensures the continued provision of laboratory space and equipment for the team’s new cycle of activities and enables North Space to access new support and funding from the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth.

Later this year, the team will move forward with several projects, including SPATI-III for EuRoC 2026, the BART rover for the European Rover Challenge 2026, the ASTRA research project and the Space Schools initiative, which promotes space science and technology among schools across the country.
