Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) is hosting faculty member and researcher Manuel E. Macías from TEC Monterrey, Mexico, until March 6, under an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) grant from the Polytechnic of Porto.
During his time at ISEP, several activities are taking place, with a few highpoints such as a lecture for students of the Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering – Power Systems, a seminar for faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE), and a webinar, in collaboration with DEE faculty member Gustavo R. Alves, presenting remote laboratories from TEC Monterrey and ISEP to faculty at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University.
This visit is part of the activities of the Center for Innovation in Engineering and Industrial Technology (CIETI), in the area of remote laboratories, highlighting the recent submission of a project proposal to the Erasmus+ program, with a consortium that includes ISEP and TEC Monterrey, under the leadership of the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Costa Rica, where legislation for the use of this technological educational resource in education was recently submitted.
Manuel E. Macías has carried out applied research projects focused on power electronics, electric machine control, virtual instrumentation, and remote laboratories. He has taught higher education courses in electronics and machine automation and is the founder and CEO of LaiBoyan, a technological and innovative company capable of implementing remote, cyber-physical, and virtual laboratories that facilitate tasks with physical equipment, offering technological alternatives for telepresence, virtual, and cyber-physical environments. He earned his doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, and has collaborated with companies such as National Instruments and Siemens A&D.
