Professor José Carlos de Sá integrates the Executive Advisory Board of the Shingo Institute

José Carlos de Sá, Coordinating Professor at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), of Politécnico do Porto (P.PORTO), has recently been invited to join the Executive Advisory Board of the Shingo Institute, a distinction that recognises his outstanding track record in quality management, systems thinking, and continuous improvement.

The Executive Advisory Board brings together international experts from industry, academia, and consultancy, contributing to the dissemination of best practices and to the development of the Shingo Model. José Carlos de Sá’s participation in this advisory body reflects the impact of his work across European organisations and his ability to integrate both strategic and practical perspectives.

He began his career in 1998 as a consultant, later progressing to roles as production and quality director in a multinational company. Over more than two decades, he has developed projects focused on improving safety, reducing waste, and increasing industrial productivity. Since 2006, he has been dedicated to higher education and is currently a full-time faculty member at ISEP. His academic work includes collaborations with other institutions and research within LAETA at INEGI.

Recognised as a specialist in quality management, he was awarded the Specialist Title in 2015 by the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo, a national certification that validates extensive industrial experience and relevant contributions to applied research. He is the author of more than 135 scientific publications, editor of academic works, participant in European projects, and a speaker at international conferences. He also serves on the editorial boards of scientific journals in the fields of technological sustainability and systems safety.

His appointment to the Executive Advisory Board of the Shingo Institute further strengthens the international recognition of his career and highlights the contribution that José Carlos de Sá will continue to make to the global community of operational excellence, promoting sustainable continuous improvement practices.
