Helder I. Chaminé and Maria José Afonso, professors of the Department of Geotechnical Engineering and researchers at the Laboratory of Cartography and Applied Geology of the “Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto” (ISEP), were invited editors for the publication of the special volume of Water (IF 3,530).
This volume, dedicated to the sustainable management and planning of groundwater resources in urban areas, fits in the United Nations World Water Day that, in 2022, was dedicated to the theme groundwater under the slogan making the invisible visible.
The publication offers a set of articles that promote reflections, methodologies and analysis of case studies in model areas on the importance of groundwater in our daily lives and in environmental sustainability. In view of the success of the special volume, Water has challenged the guest editors to promote a second issue of the theme in urban hydrogeology.
