special sessions

 

The special sessions should focus on a specific scientific subject on the scope of ICMA2SC’20. The organizers of the session, at most two researchers in the field, will be responsible for:

  • Sending the call for papers of their session;
  • Coordinate the revision process of the papers submitted within it;
  • Deliver the final versions of the accepted papers in the format given at ICMA2SC’20 website;
  • Each special session must have at least 5 confirmed speakers.

The special sessions’ proposals should contain the following information:

  • Title;
  • Brief description;
  • List of topics of interest;
  • Organizers (names, affiliation, e-mails).

 

special session #1: Impact of fractional calculus in modelling and control applications

Description:

Recently, an increasing number of researchers have turned their attention to fractional calculus, quite simply defined as the generalization of integration and differentiation to an arbitrary order. Fractional calculus is currently seen as a powerful tool with numerous advantages in all areas of research, including mathematics, physics, control engineering, biomedicine, etc.  Its popularity comes from the advantages it brings over traditional integer order calculus: such as the ability to capture non-linear behavior and long-term memory effects in biological systems or to enhance the performance and robustness of control systems. Its impact on various research domains is from this point of view extraordinary, opening up new research directions and further developments. This special session welcomes papers dealing with fractional calculus in modelling and control applications and aims at demonstrating the impact of fractional calculus upon current research findings. We welcome any contribution within the general scope of the Special Session theme " Impact of fractional calculus in modelling and control applications ".

The organizers of this session kindly invite creative and active researchers, in theoretical analysis and numerical tools, to present their valuable research in fractional order models of biological models. Fractional order models have become ubiquitous research topics in the last few decades. Their memory property contributes to a better and profound understanding of the dynamics of real world models, namely of biological population problems. Stochastic and deterministic models and coinfection models, as well as computational models, are welcome for HIV, HCV, Ebola, Zika, Dengue, Tuberculosis, SIR, SEIR, etc.

Description:

In the last decades, the interest in fractional calculus increased substantially. This fact is due to on the one hand different problems can be considered in the framework of fractional derivatives like, for example, in optics and quantum mechanics, and on another hand, fractional calculus gives us a new degree of freedom which can be used for more complete characterization of an object or as an additional encoding parameter. In particular, the interest in fractional differential equations has increased considerably due essentially to the wide range of applications. These types of equations are used mostly to model processes in the fields of engineering, viscoelastic materials, hydrology, system control, just to mention some. The organizers welcome any contribution to the study partial differential equations and their applications.

special session #5: DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS, SPECIAL EQUATIONS AND APPLICATIONS

Description:

It has long been known the role played by special equations and/or systems of equations, in Physics and its applications. The interest in several aspects of this large topic has recently been renewed by the emergence of new applications or by the introduction of new ideas of dynamical origin in the analysis of well-known equations and/or functions or, indeed, by both. Some examples along this line include recently introduced dynamical systems techniques in the study of Painlevé equations and Halphen systems, new geometric constructions enabling computations of non-linear Stokes phenomena, and the use of ergodic theoretic and probabilistic methods in the study of phase-transitions. Albeit the above examples are essentially of theoretic nature, they also are of undisputed relevance in Quantum Physics and matter theory. Other recent applications of similar ideas lying closer to engineering chiefly involve the use of dynamical systems in control theory, artificial intelligence, and diagnosis algorithms. The organizers of this section welcome applications from scientists wishing to delivery an invited talk to the audience of the section in order to present original theoretic or applied research works fitting in the above described setting.

Fuzzy Modeling is a modern scientific discipline that benefits of mathematics focused on ill-defined or vaguely specified problems. It is based on the concept of fuzzy set, introduced by Lotfi A. Zadeh in 1965, and characterized by its membership function. This complex discipline began to be promoted not only in many application areas, but in many areas of human knowledge and cognition in general. As a mathematical discipline fuzzy modeling is based on operations from a semi-linear space, residuated lattice, etc. Models are formulated using fuzzy relational calculus, fuzzy differential calculus, fuzzy transforms, etc. The aim of this special session is to provide a forum for discussion the latest  achievements in the development of fuzzy models as well as their applications to dynamical systems, image processing and neural networks.

special session #7: Symmetries and Conservation Laws for Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations with Applications

Many real world problems which arise in various scientific fields such as economics, biology, physics, fluid dynamics, and engineering are modelled by physically and mathematically interesting nonlinear differential partial equations (PDEs). For studying exact properties of such equations, symmetries and conservation laws are powerful tools that can provide explicit solutions, conserved quantities, transformations to simpler equations, tests of numerical schemes, and more.
The aim of this special session will be to report on recent developments in symmetry analysis and conservation law analysis with applications to nonlinear PDEs of physical interest. High-quality presentations that contain original research results are encouraged
