QTDEI "Building Real-Time Software on Linux using SCHED_DEADLINE"
23-02-2023

The Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI) of the Engineering Institute of Porto (ISEP), in collaboration with the Master in Critical Computing Systems Engineering (MESCC), invites to the webinar "Critical Computing Series: Building Real-Time Software on Linux using SCHED_DEADLINE", which will take place on March 2nd, at 3:00 PM, at ISEP.

The event will take place in room B203 at ISEP.

Abstract

The talk provides an overview of the SCHED_DEADLINE scheduler, a relatively new scheduling class of the Linux kernel, which is available from data-center servers to embedded systems. The talk will also include an overview and demonstration of cases of use in a number of diverse scenarios: from real-time multimedia to mixed-criticality use-cases in the automotive and railway industries, as being dealt in the AMPERE EU project.

Short Bio

Tommaso Cucinotta has a PhD from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (SSSA), Pisa, Italy. He spent more than 10 years at the Real-Time Systems Laboratory (ReTiS) of SSSA, has been MTS at Bell Labs in Dublin, Ireland, and Software Development Engineer in AWS also in Dublin. Since 2016, he is back at SSSA as associate professor. Among other activities, Tommaso Cucinotta works on the Linux SCHED_DEADLINE scheduler, to improve its global scheduler performance and scalability.
