CISTER, a top research unit from the School of Engineering – Polytechnic of Porto has opened a call for PhD students to participate in research projects in the fields of Sensor Networks; Cyber Physical Systems; Multicore Systems; Adaptive RT Systems; and RT Software.

REQUIREMENTS
The candidates should have an undergraduate or master degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or related fields. GRE and TOEFL are welcome. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Candidates holding a undergraduate degree with a GPA (Grade Point Average) greater or equal to 75% are preferred.

PHD STUDIES
PhD students of the CISTER Research Unit are usually enrolled in the PDEEC PhD program at the University of Porto, which will also award the PhD on successful completion of the studies. The PDEEC program requires class work during the first year of studies. Please refer to the PDEEC website for details.

Alternative enrolment is possible in the Carnegie Mellon Portugal program. In this scheme students can obtain a double degree from the Carnegie Mellon University in the USA and a university in Portugal (University of Porto, among others). The application deadline for the Carnegie Mellon Portugal program in the Computer Science course and the Electrical and Computer Engineering course is on December 15 and 31, 2009 respectively. SALARY AND BENEFITS
The positions are for up to four years contract. Salary will be up to 14.000€ (after taxes) per year. Other benefits include social security, 25 days of paid vacation and productivity awards and access to institutional private health insurance. CISTER research facilities and expertise offer an excellent research environment for acquiring research skills.
