Short Biographies

 

SARA HERSHKOVITZ

Prof. Sara Hershkovitz retired from The Center for Educational Technology (CET) In Israel, after 4 decades. During 27 years (till 2017) she was the head Mathematics Department and led the development of dozens of CET’s Math textbooks for primary and secondary schools, as well as the interactive digital content and the digital textbooks, and led the development of the online course in Math for high school, which is a part of CET’s Virtual High School (VHS).
During 2017 to 2020 Prof. Hershkovitz was the head of assessment and Evaluation Dep. Which was responsible for national and international exams in Israel as well as for the research led by CET.

During all the years Prof. Hershkovitz was deeply involved in professional Development: in university courses, national committees, and in Teachers’ Colleges. In the last 10 years, she headed the Department of Mathematics Education in Elementary Schools, in Sha’anan Academic Religious Teachers' College, in Haifa.  

Prof. Hershkovitz participated in International Research and Development groups, lectured in dozens of national and international conferences, and published books and research papers in the field of Mathematics Education.

KAUSER JAHAN

Dr. Kauser Jahan is Department Head and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Rowan University.  She completed her Ph.D. studies in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 1993.  Dr. Jahan is a Fulbright Scholar and a registered Professional Civil Engineer.  She is a leader and innovator in the area of curriculum development and is a nationally and internationally known expert in teaching.  She is actively involved in environmental engineering education/research and outreach for K-12 students/educators.  Her research interests include pollution prevention, alternate energy and teaching pedagogy. 

Dr. Jahan is not only actively involved in the mentoring of Rowan University students, she has also established mentoring programs for pre-college students, educators and other college students from all over the USA.  Kauser has established and directs three critical programs at Rowan University that are targeted for the mentoring of underrepresented students in engineering:  the Attracting Women into Engineering (AWE) Program, Engineers on Wheels Program, and the Rowan Engineering Clinics for Teachers Program.  She established all three programs by securing external funding from the Engineering Information Foundation, the National Science Foundation and the Edison Venture Funds. Currently she is directing the inclusive curriculum content for her department for the NSF RED (Revolutionizing Engineering Diversity) grant. She has worked at all levels to advance engineering especially the representation of women and minorities and continues to do so by raising awareness and seeking external funding.

Dr. Jahan has been recognized as an outstanding educator by various professional organizations. She is the recipient of the following awards:

RADOVAN KACIN, PMP, PMI-ACP, CSP, SCPM

Radovan Kačín teaches project management and entrepreneurship at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague.

He trains and coaches agile teams, supports transformation of traditional project teams to agile, consults design thinking and agile projects and develops collaboration of universities and companies.

He also works as an invited expert for the European Commission evaluating international research and capacity building projects.

He has 20+ years of experience as a project manager.

By the Fulbright Commission he was named in 2012 as Fulbright Honorary Ambassador.

He holds many professional certifications, actively contributes to the development of project management/agile community, e.g. as reviewer for conferences of the Scrum Alliance and the Project Management Institute, reviewer and coach of presenters at Agile Network India conferences, onsite visitor for PMI GAC (PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs) and contributor at events educating agile coaches and scrum masters (Agile Coach Camp CZ; Agile Thailand, Agility Today Gurugram).

NEHREEN MAJED

Dr. Nehreen Majed is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at University of Asia Pacific (UAP), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Previously, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Science and Management at North South University in Dhaka. She received her Bachelors and Masters in Civil Engg (Environmental) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, USA.

Being an active researcher, Dr. Nehreen received multiple in-house research grants at UAP working on different issues in Environmental Engineering field including spatial and temporal variation of river  water quality, waste loads from outfall discharge, evaluation of effluent treatments plants in industries, Life Cycle Assessment of waste management and waste water treatment technologies, uptake and bio-accumulation of environmental contaminants through food-chain etc. Apart from the academic responsibilities, Dr. Nehreen also holds the position of the founder Director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at UAP with an aim to foster internationalization through initiating global collaborations.  She is also working as a member of the self-assessment committee for quality assurance while actively participating in the implementation of the Outcome Based Education (OBE) in the department. She also serves as a certified evaluator of Board of Accreditation of Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), Bangladesh for on-site evaluation and accreditation of BSc Engineering Programs.

Nehreen is a passionate educator with contribution in different voluntary platforms such as Agami Education Foundation, Women Architects, Engineers and Planners Association in Bangladesh etc. With great enthusiasm in Agile Scrum instructional concept, Nehreen is implementing the method in Engineering courses in Bangladesh. She aims to bring positive and innovative changes in the techniques of Engineering and Science based knowledge dissemination.

SARAH PAIKIN

 

Sarah is a lifelong educator, leader, and certified Scrum Master. Using her extensive experience in classrooms, training teachers, and running schools, she has gained a deep understanding of the importance and value of learning culture. Sarah founded Agile for Ed in order to harness the power of educational technology, Agile, and Scrum in education.  She combines her deep understanding of leading educational philosophies such as Reggio, project-based learning, flipped classroom, and inquiry-based learning with Agility to impact culture in any learning environment.  Agile for Ed supports parents, schools, and educators to refine, pivot, and adapt to the ever-changing world of the 21st century learner

KONSTANTINOS PETRIDIS

 

Konstantinos Petridis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) and the director of the HMU International Relations Office. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the University of St. Andrews (UK) in 2002. His research focuses on applications of lasers on materials processing and their applications in third generation solar cells and gas sensing. He demonstrates a high expertise and extended laboratory experience in laser technology and physics, in the ultrafast laser processing techniques of graphene and graphene-based optoelectronic devices and laser induced decoration of 2D materials with nanomaterials. He has coordinated 8 Erasmus and Erasmus Plus projects and he actively participated as a teacher, manager, sub-coordinator in another 6 Erasmus projects. He has participated as a researcher in 12 national & international research programs.

thierry (noah) dana-picard

 

Thierry (Noah) Dana-Picard is a Professor of Mathematics at the Jerusalem College of Technology, an academic institution training high-tech engineers and managers. He has two PhDs, from France in Algebraic Geometry, and from Israel in Non-Commutative Algebra. Noah is an active researcher in Mathematics and STEAM Education, domains in which he publishes regularly. His has special interest in Mathematics in a technology-rich environment and its influence in education, and in Mathematics and Culture. He is a member of the editorial board of several journals, chaired international conferences and special sessions, and is always happy with international collaborations.

deolinda dias rasteiro

 

Deolinda M. L. D. Rasteiro is Doctorate on Mathematics in the field of Network Optimisation. She is a Professor at ISEC and teachs undergraduate (Statistic and Probability Methods to Mechanical Engineering) and graduate levels (Applied Mathematics to Master of
Electrotechnical Engineering and Master of Biomedical Engineering). She was ISEC's Vice-President from 2006 until 2010, responsible for ISEC’s International Relations Office, Quality Office, Academic Services Office and Public Relations Office during that period. She was responsible for the organization of the European Study Group, Coimbra, 2013 and from to 2015 until know she has co-organized the Days of the Department of Physics and Mathematics and Days of Biomedical Engineering. She is currently the SEFI Mathematics’ Working Group secretary.
She is co-author of over 50 papers in applied mathematics and education fields since researching new methods to present Mathematics to students has been her priority in the last years. She is currently the responsible, at IPC/ISEC, of the Erasmus+ project: RULES_MATH (New rules for assessing mathematical competencies).

HANA SIDDIQUEE

Hana Siddiquee is the founder of Agile in Education USA and president at Bohnishikha. She is the chair of the Agile in Education Global Virtual Conference.

Hana is a pioneer in the usage of Agile Teaching and Learning Methodology, Scrum, and eduScrum in higher education in the USA. She is the only post-secondary educator in the USA to have implemented Agile Teaching and Learning Methodology, Scrum, eduScrum and L-EAF, Learning Educational Agile Framework, Scaling in the classroom, into more than 18 graduate and undergraduate courses by the year 2020.

Hana has developed an MBA in Project Management concentration program and designed Project Management, Agile Project Management, Project Cost and Risk Analysis, and Business Marketing Analytics graduate courses at a reputable university. She is conducting research in Agile in Higher Education, eduScrum in Higher Education, and Experiential Team Building with Scrum.

She serves as the lead North America regions of the Women PowerUp Network. She is  conducting research in Women Empowerment, Women in Agile Leadership, and Alleviate Poverty through Innovative Educational programs.

Hana is the former Director and co-creator of Boston University Agile in Education, and a former Executive Board Member, Boston University Agile Innovation Lab. She organized the first Agile in Education Global Virtual Conference, hosted by BU Agile Innovation Lab, as the chairperson.

MIRELA VINEREAN-BERNHOFF

I am senior lecturer in mathematics at Karlstad University since 2006 and accomplished teacher since 2016. I teach mathematics in the engineering and teacher education  programs. My research interest is from the beginning in kinetic theory (the focus of my dissertation) and in recent years in mathematics education with a focus on the use of digital technology for mathematics teaching. My latest research is based on various pedagogical projects on the development of mathematics teaching for engineering students and prospective teachers in mathematics.

GEOFF WAKES

Geoff Wake is Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Nottingham where he directs the work of the Centre for Research in Mathematics Education. Geoff’s research mainly focuses on the teaching and learning of applications of mathematics. He has carried out design-based research of curriculum, materials and assessment in mathematics widely but primarily with a focus in the post-compulsory sector. His work has been informed by research into the use of mathematics in workplaces and the transition of students into university. He has been substantially involved in developing national qualifications in mathematics in England and has recently advised on mathematics in new vocational and technical qualifications.
Geoff has collaborated extensively with European and Japanese researchers and the Centre for Research in Mathematics Education has strong connections with colleagues in the United States.
