Morten Brekke

Background in Theoretical astrophysics. 25 years of teaching experience in Mathematics and Physics at Faculty of Engineering and Science, Agder University. Project leader of ‘parAbel’, a national project wich was funded by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training from 2000 – 2009. ‘parAbel’ developed digital, web-based learning tools in all Mathematics and Physics courses in upper secondary education in Norway. Ten years as a Study Coordinator of STEM-courses at our Faculty.

My interest in teaching and research is based on the use of

  • Computer Aided Assessment - CAA
  • Video lectures and short videos (Flipped classroom)
  • Visualization and Simulation

From traditional lectures to “almost” no lectures at all. Grading with CAA – tools.

I am coordinator of two networking groups in MatRIC - Centre for excellence in Education (http://www.matric.no/):

  • Digital Assessment. This network connects university level mathematics teachers who are using, or thinking about using, CAA to support their students' learning.
  • Video. This network connects university level mathematics teachers who are working on the production of video resources for teaching and learning mathematics (streaming, tutorial support, flipped classroom, blended learning).

MatRIC - Centre for Research, Innovation and Coordination of Mathematics Teaching is a learning community working for excellence in teaching mathematics in universities.

amélia caldeira is currently an Assistant Professor at Mathematics Department of Institute of Engineering of Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP/P.Porto). She is a researcher in SYSTEC - Research Centre for Systems and Technologies, ISR - Institute of Systems and Robotics and in LEMA - Mathematical Engineering Laboratory of ISEP.

Her research interests are in the areas of control and optimization, having a particular interest in nonlinear and constrained problems, optimal control and model predictive control. She is interested in optimal control applications, namely, in robotics, nature and health fields.

She is also interested in innovative teaching methodologies for mathematics and engineering teaching. Since 2012, she has been coordinating several projects that are dynamically streamlined to motivate students to mathematics and engineering learning. Namely, Matemática Fora de Portas - Outdoor Mathematics, Matemática Fora de Horas - Out-of-hours Mathematics, and Matemática, por onde andas? - Mathematics, where are you?. (see https://www2.isep.ipp.pt/matematicaforadeportas/)

Besides that, she is focused and involved in development work in the field of Outdoor Mathematics, namely in math trails. She is involved in an European programme -EU project MoMaTrE - MOBILE MATH TRAILS IN EUROPE
